When other San Diego dentists are asked..."If you had a patient in need of an orthodontist, who would you refer them to?"  The answer to this question has resulted in Dr. Nappen's selection to the 2004-05, 2005-06, 2007-08 and 2009-10 America's Top Dentists List.  Dr. Nappen feels honored that so many of his dental and medical peers have chosen him to be their personal and their family's orthodontist.  Dr. Nappen is truly a doctor's doctor.

In his free time Dr. Nappen enjoys time with his family and making improvements to his practice. He also enjoys jogging, tennis, skiing, backpacking, white water rafting, sea kayaking and reading. Dr. Nappen and his wife Dr. Holly Nappen have done volunteer dentistry for a variety of local clinics serving indigent patients and support Kids Against Hunger by volunteering at local food packaging events sponsored by Friends & Family Community Connection. Internationally he and his wife Dr. Holly Nappen have volunteered with the Flying Samaritans in Mexico and since 2005 they have commited to doing annual volunteer dental work for Outreach Africa in the Singida region of Tanzania, Africa.

Dr. Nappen specializes in orthodontic care for children, teenagers and adults. He is a native of Seattle where he completed his undergraduate, dental school and orthodontic training at the University of Washington in 1982. The University of Washington awarded Dr. Nappen the degrees of Doctor of Dental Surgery (D.D.S.), Masters in Dental Science (M.S.D.) and Clinical Certificate in the Specialty of Orthodontics.

Dr. Nappen is a Diplomate of the American Board of Orthodontics and a member of the College of Diplomates of the American Board of Orthodontics, the World Federation of Orthodontists, the American Association of Orthodontics, the Pacific Coast Society of Orthodontists, the California Association of Orthodontists, the American Dental Association and the San Diego County Dental Society.

Dr. Nappen has completed numerous continuing education courses and he has lectured locally, nationally and internationally. He is a long-time active member and orthodontic advisor to a variety of local dental study groups including the San Diego Advanced Study Group, the Balboa Naval Hospital Cleft Palate-Craniofacial Team and the San Diego Academy of Orthodontists.
