Can I play sports while I wear braces?

Almost all orthodontic appliances are safely worn during sporting activities. As you know some sports require the use of mouthguard appliances to protect the teeth from injury. When you have orthodontic appliances that you cannot remove, it is especially important to use mouthguard appliances in nearly all sports!

An orthodontic sports mouthguard needs to fit over your braces and provide a layer of soft, flexible cushion-like material between your braces and your lips and cheeks. The mouthguard must also be loose enough to allow the braces to continue to move the teeth.
